"This book aims to bring together specialists to discuss the discursive construction of identities and analyse the impact of specific identity discourses on various socio-political issues in Europe. While most analyses of the relationship between discourse and identity have been conducted by linguists and communications scholars, this volume seeks also to show how other disciplines (literature, media, sociology, conceptual history, politics and international relations in addition to critical discourse analysis and communications) examine the social construction of identity and meaning through discourse and their application to the study of European politics and society"--Introductory chapter.
- 摘要註: Socio-linguists and discourse analysts have long been aware of the fact that lan-guage does not simply describe a pre-existing reality but is rather the medium through which the social world iscreated and given meaning. While other branches of learning have been slow to take thison board, there is nevertheless a growing awareness of the importance of discourse in the creation of identitiesand the legitimisation of social structures and moral and political hierarchies. Discursive Constructions of Identity in European Politics brings together specialists from critical discourse analysisand critical approaches to communications, history, literature, media, sociology, politics and International Relations to discuss the discursive construction of identities and analysehow specific identity discourses condition and constrain knowledge andaction with regard to various socio-political issues in Europe.
